Privacy
Vux has no accounts, no ads and no tracking. Your voice goes to ModelRelay, or a voice provider you pick, to be turned into text and back, and your conversation goes to the agent on your own computer: Hermes, or Vux's own agent, which uses ModelRelay for its model. Apart from a one-time setup handoff, the list of voice skills and notifications, all through vux.dev, nothing else leaves your iPhone.
What leaves your iPhone
- Your voice, to ModelRelay
- While you speak, Vux streams your voice to ModelRelay to transcribe it, using the ModelRelay key you set up. It starts sending when you start talking, not while it waits for you. It sends the text of each reply to ModelRelay to turn it into speech. To run the conversation, it also sends ModelRelay short pieces of text, such as what you just said, the reply being spoken, the step the agent is on, or the screen of a coding agent at your desk that's asking you something. Your gateway sends that screen to ModelRelay too, with the same key, to put the question's options on its notification. Models there decide things like whether you've finished speaking or answered a question. ModelRelay and the models it routes to handle this audio and text under ModelRelay's own privacy policy.
- Your voice, to a provider you pick
- If you pick another voice provider in Settings › Voice, Vux sends it your recording when you stop speaking, to transcribe it, and the text of each reply, to turn it into speech, using the key you entered there; these no longer go to ModelRelay. That provider handles them under its own privacy policy. ModelRelay still gets the short pieces of text described above.
- Your conversation, to the agent on your computer
- What you said, as text, and any photos you attach go to the agent you connected Vux to, which runs on a computer you control. Vux also loads past conversations and the list of models from it.
- With Hermes, Hermes and whatever model provider you configured it with handle your conversation under your own setup.
- With Vux's own agent (installed by the setup command when there's no Hermes), the agent sends your conversation to ModelRelay to run its model, using the same ModelRelay key: what you said, the agent's replies, and the commands it runs, files it reads and their output. ModelRelay and the models it routes to handle it under ModelRelay's own privacy policy. The agent keeps your conversations in a file on your computer.
- Setup, through vux.dev
- When you copy the setup command, Vux registers a one-time pairing code with vux.dev, which we run on Cloudflare. The command, run on your computer, sends the agent's address and keys there, and Vux collects them. The command and Vux's own agent are downloaded from vux.dev. They're deleted the moment Vux collects them, and everything about the pairing is deleted after 15 minutes. vux.dev also counts how many setups reach each step (started, finished on your computer, collected by Vux) and how long each took, so we can see where setup gets stuck. Those counts aren't tied to the pairing code, your IP address or your keys.
- Notifications, through vux.dev and Apple
- So Hermes can tell you when a task finishes, fails or needs your approval, or a coding agent at your desk finishes or needs an answer, while Vux isn't open, Vux gets a push token from Apple and registers it with vux.dev, once for each gateway you connect. vux.dev keeps that token and a fingerprint of a secret it gives Vux, and Vux hands the secret to your gateway. When a task needs telling, your gateway sends vux.dev a short title and one line of text (the first line of the reply or of a background task's result, the error, the command to approve, or Hermes' sentence about the desk agent, with the question it asks and its options as buttons), plus the conversation's ID, and vux.dev passes it to Apple to deliver. vux.dev doesn't store or log that text. Removing a gateway in Vux deletes its registration, and vux.dev deletes a registration once Apple reports the token no longer works, for example after you delete the app.
- Voice skills, from vux.dev and GitHub
- To show voice skills in Settings, Vux downloads their list from vux.dev, which reads it from a public GitHub repository, and downloads each skill's description file from GitHub. These are plain downloads: they carry nothing about you beyond what any web request does, such as your IP address, and vux.dev doesn't log them. Installing or updating a skill is a request to the agent on your computer, which downloads the skill from GitHub itself.
All of these connections use HTTPS. Apart from setup, notifications and downloading the list of voice skills, Vux doesn't send anything to us, and Vux contains no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting code.
What stays on your iPhone
- Photo details. Vux resizes photos you attach and removes their metadata, such as location, before sending them.
- Keys. Your gateway, ModelRelay and voice provider keys are kept in the iPhone's Keychain, on this device only.
- Settings and recent conversations. Your gateway address, settings, and the transcripts of recent conversations are stored in the app, so they appear without waiting on the network.
- Latency log. Vux records how long each step of a voice turn took, and how each question to Jev went (timings, outcomes and the kind of network, not what you said). It stays on the device unless you choose to share it from Settings.
- Live Activities, and notifications for tasks Vux is following, are created on the device.
Vux doesn't keep your recordings: each one is deleted once it's been transcribed.
Deleting your data
Log Out in Vux removes your keys and the cached transcripts from your iPhone. Removing a gateway also deletes its notification registration from vux.dev. Deleting the app removes everything Vux stored. Conversations kept by your agent live on your computer, and you manage them there. To ask ModelRelay about data it holds, contact ModelRelay.
Children
Vux isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. Apart from the setup counts and the notification registrations above, we don't collect data from anyone.
