Vux

Set up Vux

One command sets up your computer for Vux. You paste it and confirm in Vux.

  1. Copy the setup command

Open Vux and tap Copy setup command. It ends with a one-time pairing link, valid for 15 minutes:

    curl -fsSL https://vux.dev/install.sh | sh -s https://vux.dev/pair/code
  2. Paste it into an agent or Terminal

On the computer: give it to any agent (Hermes, Claude Code, Codex…) or paste it into Terminal. With Hermes there, it turns on Hermes's API server; otherwise it installs Vux's own agent as a background service. Either way it gives the agent an HTTPS address with Tailscale and gets a ModelRelay key for speech. It asks you only for what it can't do itself, such as signing in. To install Vux's own agent even though you have Hermes, add --vux-agent after the pairing link.

  3. Confirm in Vux

When it says it's done, go back to Vux: it has received the agent's address and keys through vux.dev (they are deleted as soon as Vux picks them up). Vux asks you to confirm, then connects.

What you need

If Vux can't connect

“Can't reach …”
The gateway or its HTTPS address is down. On the computer, check hermes gateway status and tailscale serve status. With tailscale serve, your iPhone must be connected to Tailscale.
“… has no valid HTTPS certificate”
Turn on HTTPS certificates in the Tailscale admin console, then copy the setup command again and run it.
“That URL isn't a Hermes API server”
The address points at something else, such as the Hermes dashboard. The API server listens on port 8642 by default.
“The Hermes gateway rejected its API key”
The key changed. Copy the setup command again and run it.
“ModelRelay rejected its API key” or no speech
Check the key and the account's credit at modelrelay.ai.

The command is install.sh; agents follow setup.md.
